MMA for Charity at MMA Institute Richmond, Va PDF Print E-mail

MMA for Charity was created in the wake of last month’s disaster in Haiti. Mixed Martial Artists from around the country have volunteered to help raise money and awareness in an effort to contribute to the relief of the shattered country. The chaos brought on by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake has complicated things for the children of Haiti immensely, making it difficult to tell who is alone and who is simply trying to locate loved ones.  MMA for Charity will be raising funds for Hope for Haiti Children’s Center.  Several top fighters have agreed to take part in a 2 day seminar in Richmond, VA and will be auctioning off merchandise with 100% of the proceeds going to the center.

Congratulations to Rick McCoy, One of Two Referees Selected from VA for UFC Fight Night 20 PDF Print E-mail

On January 11, 2010, Rick McCoy, owner of MMA Institute was selected to officiate at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 20, which took place at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.  Accompanying Rick was the only other official selected to referee from Virginia, Todd McGovern.  Rick currently leads the Official’s Certification Program for the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, and also for the sanctioning body Global Combat Alliance.  Thank you for your dedication to our sport.  Often underappreciated and overly criticized, the function of the referee is first and foremost in place to ensure the safety of the fighters.  With extensive experience as a fighter, head coach of MMA Institute, and instructor of aspiring officials, Rick is undoubtedly one of the most knowledgeable and qualified official’s in Mixed Martial Arts.  We would like to congratulate Rick and Todd for a job well done and we look forward to seeing them again on the big stage!
